About
Hello, We Are Plan Ocean
Plan Ocean is a non-profit organization approved by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and recognized as a public interest corporation by the Ministry of Strategy and Finance.
As our name suggests, Plan Ocean is a marine conservation organization created by individuals who design and implement “plans for the sea”—focused on protecting and restoring marine life and ecosystems, while also fostering a deeper connection between people and the ocean.
Our efforts go beyond conservation. We aim to create socio-economic value through this relationship with the sea, inspiring individuals to experience meaningful change in their daily lives.
The Ocean's Problems Are Our Problems
Life with the Sea
South Korea’s maritime territory, surrounded by the sea on three sides, covers 438,000 square kilometers—4.4 times the size of the country’s land area. Yet, for many, the ocean is often seen as simply a tourist destination. In reality, the effects of changes in the sea—such as the disappearance of marine species, rising sea temperatures, and climate shifts—are felt deeply in our everyday lives.
What the Ocean Provides
The ocean offers not only a rich source of resources and food but also serves as a hub for transportation, tourism, and entertainment. Iconic marine creatures like whales and turtles are essential parts of our marine resources. Protecting the ocean’s resources is critical, not just for ethical reasons, but also to sustain our way of life. This is why Plan Ocean was created: to raise awareness and drive change in a way that people can truly feel.
Why Planning is Important for the Ocean
Marine and environmental issues are complex, involving diverse perspectives—fishermen seeking stable livelihoods, businesses focused on efficiency, activists working to prevent overdevelopment, and governments balancing development with conservation. What’s needed is effective, well-designed planning. At Plan Ocean, we focus on creating actionable, sustainable plans to tackle these challenges and drive meaningful outcomes.
